In our second episode Chi Rodriguez, the Head of HR at Outposter, who joined Chris Titley live from Manila. Chi brings a wealth of experience from the BPO industry in the Philippines, having been a pioneer in the field since 2003.
Chi started his career at Convergys, one of the largest BPOs in the Philippines, now known as Concentrix. With almost two decades in the industry, he’s seen the evolution and tremendous growth of the BPO sector. From its early days of primarily serving U.S. clients to now being recognized as the BPO capital of the world, the Philippines has indeed come a long way.
Chi highlighted several key reasons why the Philippines is a prime destination for outsourcing:
English Fluency: Most BPO workers are college degree holders, which ensures a high level of proficiency in English.
Talent Pool: The country boasts a high literacy rate, providing a steady stream of highly prepared workers.
Cost Savings: Salaries in the Philippines are significantly lower compared to countries like Australia, leading to substantial savings for companies.
Government Support: The Philippine government offers tax incentives and supports university courses focused on BPO skills.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought about significant changes, as the industry adapted quickly to remote work. This shift proved that working from home is just as effective as working on-site, leading many companies to adopt a hybrid work model. This setup not only saves time and transportation costs but also improves work-life balance, especially in cities plagued by heavy traffic.
Chi shared his reasons for joining Outposter and how the company’s culture of treating employees like family has created a loyal and dedicated workforce. He emphasised that Outposter provides a supportive environment, contrasting with the typical call centre industry where frequent job hopping is common.
Looking ahead, Chi is excited about the future of the BPO industry, noting the continuous opening of new roles and the increasing interest from various industries in outsourcing. The adaptability of the BPO sector to meet these new demands makes the future both challenging and promising.
For companies considering outsourcing to the Philippines, Chi advises that it’s a win-win situation. The combination of cost savings, a talented workforce, and the overall benefits of outsourcing makes it a compelling option.
Stay tuned for our next episode, where we’ll continue to explore the dynamic world of remote work and outsourcing. Thanks for listening!

We work with clients across Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, with most clients reporting an average of 70% cost savings when outsourcing with us.
If you are thinking of a specific role, chances are that someone has already found a staff member in the Philippines to do it. With high-speed internet available in the Philippines, anything that can be done on a PC or a phone can be done overseas. Everything from animation to engineering.
Generally, if we have staff members available within our organisation, you can get started on the same day. If we don’t, it will usually take between 3 to 6 weeks after we have custom designed your process/campaign to find a qualified professional.
We take data security and privacy of our client information very seriously. In our 15 years of operating in the Philippines, we have never had any data breaches. Every staff member handling sensitive information is required to use Teramind, a security tracking software, which is included in your price. This reports back to management and our full-time data security team of any potential breaches of our policies, which are all based on the internationally recognised security system ISO27001.
Once you hand over the role description, our in-house recruitment team will search through our existing networks to find potential candidates. We then conduct three separate interviews with the candidate. First, with our recruitment team, second with our Australian management, and the final one with you. All recruitment is free of charge, as your billing doesn't start until the day they start.
